Today, I'd like you to meet one that comes across as WOW, I’m such a high achiever AKA

The Perfectionist. 

The problem?

Most of us don't even realise it's speaking.

The Perfectionist is incredibly convincing.

It sounds wise. Responsible. Successful. Even ambitious.

It whispers things like...

"Let's wait until we're more ready."

"Just one more course."

"The website needs one more tweak."

"I'll start journaling on Monday."

"I'll post it once it's perfect."

It never says...

"I'd like to keep you stuck for another six months."

Gosh! don't know about you...but I've spent a lifetime carrying the invisible weight of this voice, thinking that's me being so responsible, successful, a true engineer, only to realise it's led me to self sabotage, at the cost of my well being.

Now here's the fascinating part.

Surely perfectionists should be the people getting everything done?

Actually...

Perfectionism isn't about getting things done. It's about protecting yourself from what might happen if you do.

Because once you launch...Someone can judge it.

Once you post...Someone can disagree.

Once you try...You might discover you're still learning.

So your brain makes you a deal.

"Let's not start today."

Instant relief. Your nervous system relaxes. The discomfort disappears.

Except...Nothing changed.

Tomorrow, The Perfectionist makes you the exact same deal.

Your brain isn't trying to ruin your life.

It's trying to keep you emotionally safe.

Thousands of years ago, rejection from your tribe could threaten survival.

Today? Your brain still reacts to social evaluation as though it's dangerous.

An Instagram post.
A difficult conversation.
Launching your business.
Writing your first chapter.
Standing on stage.

The brain often files them under one category:

Potential threat.

So it delays. Not because you're lazy. Because your nervous system believes it's protecting you.
